THE RÔLE OF THE ULTREYA LAY RECTOR

<--Previous Article | -^-Back to Go Fourth Index | -->Next Article

The Ultreya Lay Rector (ULR) is the representative of the Ultreya and, as such, is a member of the Fourth Day Group which meets under the Chairmanship of the Fourth Day Officer. The Fourth Day Officer reports to the ULRs from the Secretariat and to the Secretariat from the ULRs.

An ULR is elected by the members of the Ultreya for a maximum period of three years. It is highly recommended that an ULR's successor be elected six months before the end of the term of Office of the current ULR so enabling the two to work together to achieve a smooth transfer. Notify the Fourth Day Officer when a new Lay Rector has been elected.

The ULR is responsible for the well running of the Ultreya, both the organization and communication aspects as well as the support and spiritual growth of its members.

The duties of an ULR include to:

  1. Arrange dates and venues of Ultreyas; inform the Go Fourth editor of dates and places. Arrange the programme for each Ultreya. Arrange the Lay Witness talks and ensure that the SD knows the subject of each. Lead the business side of each Ultreya.
  2. Keep an accurate list of names and addresses of all Cursillistas in the Ultreya and notify the Secretariat Secretary and Fourth Day Officer when a Cursillista moves from the Ultreya or joins the Ultreya.
  3. Ensure that members understand that the confidentiality of Cell-group discussions must be maintained, even within the Ultreya.
  4. Ensure that Ultreya members are kept informed about all aspects of Cursillo. Give out palanca lists to Cursillistas as soon as they are received. Organize palanca which will come from the whole Ultreya eg. fruit or sweets. Inform Cursillistas of Diocesan and National events.
  5. Keep Ultreya meetings short. Keep a record of what happens, in outline, at Ultreya meetings and send a copy of it to those who did not attend that meeting, together with copies of Go Fourth, BACC Pages, future meeting dates and other information distributed to those who were present. Ensure that regular collections are made at Ultreya meetings for Cursillo funds. Ensure that you claim your expenses, even if you give them back immediately as a donation: this is essential in order for the Secretariat to know the cost of operation.
  6. Attend all Diocesan Clausuras, if at all possible, and make immediate contact with new Cursillistas who will be joining their Ultreya, introducing them to a Cell-group. Attempt to arrange a reunion in the first week home. Check that they have a rule of life card.
  7. Explain the structure of the Cursillo movement: Secretariat --- Pre-Cursillo Group, Weekend Group and Fourth Day Group. Recommend reading of the Library. Read the Library yourself. Explain palanca (day 1, day 2 etc and Corporate) to Cursillistas. Explain about the twinning of Ultreyas with other dioceses. Encourage all Cursillistas to write entries for 'Go Fourth'.
  8. Ensure that the Ultreya does, and encourage members to, keep British and overseas Cursillos in their prayers. Encourage the use of the Pilgrims' Guide in personal prayer.
  9. Work with the Parish Priest, where possible, so that Cursillo becomes an integrated part of the Parish. Keep him/her informed of Cursillo events. Be prepared to talk about Cursillo to any who might be interested.
